Prakriti Resort & Organic Farm

Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, Nepal

Prakriti Resort & Organic Farm, established in 2018, is a community-based an eco-tourism enterprise located within the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, on the outskirts of Kathmandu, Nepal. Our mission is to promote eco-friendly tourism, empower local communities, and preserve biodiversity through sustainable practices, including organic farming and eco-conscious hospitality. The term “Prakriti” is derived from Sanskrit and commonly used in Nepali to mean “nature” or the natural state of things. It reflects the resort’s foundational philosophy of living in harmony with the environment—an idea that resonates with global sustainability values and aligns with Indigenous Australian concepts of land stewardship and ecological balance. Established in the aftermath of the 2015 earthquake, the resort represents a collaborative initiative between the Nepal Environment and Tourism Initiative Foundation (NETIF) and local stakeholders. Its development reflects a broader trend in sustainable tourism, where environmental conservation and community development are integrated into the business model. The resort operates on principles of sustainable tourism, aiming to minimize ecological impact while promoting local culture and biodiversity. It incorporates organic farming as a core component of its operations, supplying fresh produce to its on-site kitchen and demonstrating a farm-to-table approach. This not only supports environmental goals but also enhances the guest experience through transparency and quality. A distinguishing feature of Prakriti’s model is its emphasis on community involvement. Local residents are engaged through employment opportunities and shared ownership structures, ensuring that economic benefits are distributed within the region. This approach aligns with inclusive business practices and contributes to rural development.
